Violence threatens the safety of 3 million civilians in Syria, including 1 million children

The United Nations is still deeply concerned about the humanitarian impact of hostilities in and around de-escalation zone in the north-western part of Syria, which has resulted in the death and injury of hundreds in just over two months, as well as repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure that have raised the level of displacement.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said: hostilities, including air strikes, bombardment and clashes, were largely concentrated in areas controlled by non-state armed groups in Idlib, but also in government-controlled areas.

At the daily press conference, Dujarric said: an estimated number of 3 million civilians, including a million children, were at imminent risk due to violence. Since May, 330,000 women and men have fled their homes and most of them have sought safety in overcrowded areas where there is heavy demand on services.
